The Power Of Dyslexia Blog

To be continued

This is the first blog I have ever done.

When I was younger I didn't get any help and I always ended up struggling. My verbal communication skills are pretty good, but my writing skills are poor. I've been told I lack cohesion and sometimes I repeat myself.

When I was seven years old I was diagnosed with having dyslexia, but instead of getting help, I was just put in lower sets with the naughty children.

I don't like writing blogs, because I am always scared of what people will think. I am not thick, but most people interrupt people with dyslexia, as being this. I usually don't tell people that I am dyslexic, because I tend to find they try and hold me back.
Now I am 26 and still have nowhere to turn. Currently I’m doing a university course and they have been very helpful, however I don't have anyone in person to support me I only have someone online. This is very difficult, but as always I have learned to cope.

Some people think I make it up that I am dyslexic, but why would I. When I tell employers I have dyslexia I usually get turned away.

The reason I am writing about this is because I would like to write more blogs, but I lack the confidence to do so. I really don't care who reads this. I would be happy if no one did, but it's about time I opened up.
I was wondering if anyone else who is dyslexic has had the same problems.

Check out the demo online: http://www.peatc.org/peatc.cgim?template=iPhonePressReleaseKit

I can see it now....IEP team member says, "We can't do that." Dad pulls out IEP checklist of fed regs and says, "Ah, but yes we can!" :)

After viewing it...let us know what you think of it. Do you think it would be helpful to you in your next IEP meeting?

People of Character: Thoughts from the IDA conference

Hi everyone,  just a quick note to say that going to the International Dyslexia Associations annual conference in Orlando last week was awesome.  I took my 17 year old son, so he could be around others that understood his struggles and he could hear from others that would encourage him to keep pushing forward and that he can set and meet goals.  It was something I recommend for all students when possible, to get them around others that they feel really understand how they think and feel.  It wasn't a "pity party" but a place to celebrate success and how the dyslexic brain works.  Dyslexia Wonders , a book by Jennifer Smith is written by a 16 year old girl who only learned to read 4 years ago, great book to share with your kids.  Miss Teen International is Miss Teen Ohio and her platform is dyslexia.  She shared some of her story and being called a loser, etc.  I hope that my son and I can get our project going soon, Project D.E.B.U.N.K.  because we see a chance to focus on these types of emotional encouragement in the future.  We hope  we can have gatherings in the future at events like these.  We want a place for teens and younger kids to be able to feel empowered by the dyslexic learning style.  A place to educate parents looking for information, and a place that will go to the schools and do what we can to educate them on our learning style.  It is a powerful way of thinking which leads to leaders when given the opportunity.  We see too often the other end, which leads to drugs, suicide and prison.  If you want to hop on the Dyslexia Educational Bandwagon, Uniting Noteworthy Kids (DEBUNK) please email campdebunk@wmconnect.com.  We hope to have this up and running in the near future.  We are working on our mission statements and goals.  If we have your email, we will keep people updated as to where we are  in starting this great mission to unite our young dyslexic society as well as introduce them to mentors who can encourage others along the way.

Hi everyone, Im a new member to this website . Im having a hard time trying to tell one of my friends  how dyslexia makes reading and writing very hard for me.  If you have any ideas for me write back

I personally beleive, that I am more -'Open -Minded', then (almost) ALL -'NON -Dyslexic People'....But, am I right??  For or to me, the 1st 'problem', is in discussing, or thinking about: ....'what -"Open -Minded-ness", (actually) -means'....
...To me, you cannot be 'Open -Minded', if you -'think/believe, you are always right', or 'Discount other people's views'.  But, there is another side, to 'being "Open -Minded"'....For instance, being 'Creative', using your mind (to its fullest potential)....In actual fact, I will 'take my 1st point back':  perhaps; a Mind, is never truly -FUlly; open or closed minded??  It is merely; '1/2 way, or more or less, then 1/2 way'?!  ....I would love to 'Open -Up a discussion on this': what is 'Open -Mindedness'??  Who is and who is not -'Open Minded'.....and so on.  **Also; just remembering, a point I thought of earlier, (....I oft. have the problem, of 'forgetting points and remembering them, @ the wrong times', so I  'have too much to write')....I am also; 'Mixed -Race' and to me, both 'Mixed -Race' and ....'Dyslexic', people -have so much in common****: 1, we were both; 'the lowest of the low', now: we are 'emerging': to me, showing 'the BIBLICAL Point'; 'the brick that was thrown away, has now become: the Corner -Stone, of the (greatest??) house'??
....2,  We both have 'Diverse -Experience's';.....giving us 'Unique Insight's'....  3,  We are both -'Creatives'??  Lacking 'Academical Ability', generally (but possibly; being smarter, then other people??).  4, We possibly, even 'have the same friend's and Enemy's', e.g. ='the FAR -Right', or 'closed -Minded people', are our Enemy's'??  'Open -Minded people'; 're friend's??
....5,  We 're both, @ 'the top and bottom end's of Soc.'??  (Arguably, as with all the points)....6,  Possibly, 1 or 2 other things, can YOU, think of any??
I 'open -Minded-ly'??  Await (and hope for), YOUR VIEW'S/OPINION'S -Mike.

......Hi guys; ....I had some thoughts about this, before but, it seems 'too outlandish', even for ME!!

But Imagine, if ALL Dyslexics, shared a business and Invested (e.g. in Property), together: as '1 united group'?!

Please let us discuss this -'Open Mindedly', for and against....

Thank you Kindly, -Mike (from Eng.).
